To the Family/Friends of the inmates in Franklin County Jail:
As you are probably aware by now, we have moved from the “old prison” on Franklin Farm Lane to our new jail at 1804 Opportunity Avenue, inside the Cumberland Valley Business Park adjacent to Letterkenny Army Depot.
WORK RELEASE Obviously, there will be some adjustments made to travel to and from work for those who walked to work in the current facility, but we will work through those issues. If you are picking an inmate up for work-release over the next several days, just come in to the main lobby and we will direct you as to the new procedures.
VISITS Visiting hours are Monday through Friday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Each inmate may receive 1 visit per week, with a week defined as Saturday through Friday. Those in General Population or Work-Release (Males in B, C, D, F, and G units) will get a visit of at least one hour. Those inmates in a segregation status (males on E-unit) will receive 1, ½ hour visit per week. New commitments are quarantined for a period of 48 hours and do not receive visits during this time.
There will no longer be a visit list, so you will just need to bring a valid government-issued ID card. Please refer to the visitation policy on the site for any questions.
If you have been previously suspended from visiting due to a second positive on our trace drug detection, we have decided to reduce everyone back to Step I. In other words, you may visit, however, a subsequent positive will result in a 6-month suspension. Please refer to the Trace Drug Detection policy for any clarifications.
BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE TELEPHONE SCAM
We have received three reports from citizens today saying they received automated collect calls from our jail. In all three cases, they did not know anyone in jail, and called here to find out who called them. Our telephone system has no record of any of these attempted calls.
Two of the callers were local citizens in the 749 exchange. Their phone numbers differ only in the last digit. This makes me suspect an automated sequential dialer is in use.
The one caller was able to tell us that the call came from a number in the 866 area code. There is no such area code in use. By doing an internet search for the full number, I discovered that the number is linked to telephone scams. These scams pretend to be calls from correctional institutions, and even contain names of real institutions and service providers. I saw reports of persons who were charged twenty-five dollars on their phone bill after accepting such calls.
In a real collect call from our system, the called party will hear yhe following, "You have a collect call from >hear recorded inmate's name< Franklin County Prison. This call may be monitored or recorded. To accept the charges for this call, press one." |
